the foundation stone ceremony for the volksbühne at – what is today – the rosa-luxemburg-platz in berlin took place on september 14th of 1913. in 1934 the lateral additions in linienstraße were added. in the bombings of november 20th of 1943 the stage area suffered severe damage. as a cause of the 2nd bombing on april 26th of 1945 the auditorium burned down almost completely. what was left, was a ruin with at least the façades still intact. the reconstruction of the volksbühne was completed with the inauguration on april 24th of 1954. in another remodelling in 1972, the dress circle was lifted and the the third circle used as the latten.
the blockage of renovations was ended in the year 2000 with a target planning that included solutions for existing fire protection and zoning deficiencies, comparted into single building phases. the single measures were realised in the summer breaks as well as during longer close-downs.

– reconstruction of the canteen including the kitchen according to monument protection guidelines
– new construction of the stage management area
– renovation of the administration offices according to monument protection guidelines
– creation of a colour concept for the auditorium and the foyers in collabortion with conservators and different institutions of monument protection service
